My first Dark Of The Moon toy! Let's see what the third movie has brought forth.
Roadbuster is one of the movie Wreckers, alongside Leadfoot and Topspin. I love these guys. And I bought Roadbuster specifically because he uses the word "Wanker" at one point. With an accent. I was too easily sold on this guy, I know.
Now, it's time to Wreck'N'Rule!
He is a Nascar thing. I'm not a racing fan, but if you are you probably know what's up. Despite the way all the Wreckers' alt modes looked in the movie, armed to the pipes with guns, he's a pretty slick car, which is nice for the folks who just want a Nascar thing displayed on their desk.
Not much to say since I'm not a car guy. I think they did a good job making the decals and he seems nearly seamless for a movie toy. I also like the green they picked, it's a nice deep color. Overall rolls pretty well and looks nice.
Robot mode looks alright for a deluxe, but feels a little clunky and lacking in paint. Lots of grey plastic that could use some paint to make it pop. Also, the giant missile pods in the back don't store away, so they're ALWAYS present. Luckily they are on hinges which can be posed however you like, or folded up to keep them out of the way if you like.
If I had any major complaints, the arms feel too crowded and the little flaps you flip up to reveal the Autobot logo are not very sturdy, they feel like they're not meant to be there.
Despite this stuff, the molded detail is nice. I also really like the head design; it has a sort of baseball cap and a robo-mullet, a point of controversy from anti-movie fans, but a detail I really enjoy. He's got a unique look to him.
Gimmicks! The gimmick of this movie line for all the larger figures is "Mech Tech," which translates to "Ridiculous oversized weapon block with springy flip-out pieces."
In his case, he comes with a gun which can be pegged onto the top of the alt mode or the forearms of the robot mode (latter area does not work in alt mode), and when the trigger is held back, the sides of it jet out to form a giant chainsaw.
Very neat little gimmick and I wish there was an official way to lock it into place because the chainsaw is awesome, but not a bad gimmick overall. It isn't a gimmick that interests me, but it's a fun little weapon block to have handy, it especially looks nice when he's got it on his arm. (PS: His arms also have C-clip mounts under the hands, so hey!)
Also, a VERY nice touch with the movie toys is how they handle the holes for these weapons. In order to avoid making the vehicle look like it's full of holes, they created this spring-loaded peg inside of that hole so that when nothing is plugged in there, the hole is filled. It's especially useful on this guy with the rather large 88 decal located in all these areas. The holes on the sides of the car (which are NOT spring-loaded actually) are practically seamless.
Overall? Not bad. His robot mode leaves much to be desired from me, but I like having him around. I wanna own all the Wreckers because they were a fun addition to the movie and definitely deserved more screentime. If you're into the look of this guys, check 'em out.
