Along with our buddy Darkmount, I got this joker. Hopefully I can refrain from ripping on him.
Drift is another character, admittedly more recently, who is exclusive to the comics and has currently not been given television screentime. His design lends itself well to a toy, so it's no surprise (okay, some were surprised) he finally got one.
Drift has a nice alt mode! It's a fairly solid car. Due to transformation, the doors even open and can look realistically comparable to a real car with opened doors. He's also sporting a random bit of Japanese on the doors which says "Samurai" - this is a nice throwback to the use of Japanese on his comic design. If I had to say anything negative, it's that the front of the car isn't totally solid like the rest, but that's due to transformation. Also the license plate is blank, and considering older Classics like Ironhide, you'd expect some kind of silly homage back there. I'm sure someone will make a custom sticker sheet, right?
Personally, I think from a design perspective, the robot mode looks FANTASTIC. It gives a nice silhouette and is just meant to be awesome. If I had to make some negative comment, it's that the legs are too bulky for their own good. He's got this huge Gundam-esque legs that are basically giant hunks of plastic. He still stands and poses fairly well, but I often find myself having trouble getting him in a good pose right away. It's not a major issue though. The overall look of the figure makes up for it.
This guy comes with many blades. On top of the pair of large knives he has stored in his thigh armor, he's got a huge sword that he can store on his back (which is underneath the alt mode.) The sword features some more Japanese text, which I've read translates to "Peerless under heaven" or "Warriors under heaven" or something to that effect. Completely random, and I don't even know if it holds any relevance to Drift at all, but it's a neat added touch.
Overall... Drift is a pretty cool guy! He's got style, at the expense of some leg articulation, and still holds his own as a nice toy. A solid Deluxe. However, I find myself a bit torn that I bought this before waiting for his remold, Blurr. Because while this is a nice toy, I kinda like how Blurr carries the look better. Plus it's not JUST a head change, they changed the weapons and what the weapons do, which is an added touch of effort. Kudos to Hasbro for the types of redecos they've been delivering with Generations and Hunt For The Decepticons, I look forward to more.
