Power Rangers Samurai MAF Series 1: Metallic Samurai Gold Ranger

Took a while to find a proper way to word this one! This is yet another blindpacked toy I've gotten into which may be my first Power Rangers purchase in a long, long time.

The Micro Action Figure series is something created by Mega Bloks, who you might know as "that one group copying LEGO". My only experience with them was an old 2003 Ninja Turtles set, but that's besides the point.

I felt around for parts when I was looking at these bagged goodies, and with luck I ended up finding GOLD POWER!~

Series 1 has a whole lot of things that are not all that interesting to me. Namely, I felt around for parts because I didn't want to end up with one of the humans shown here, because dangit, that would be a lame review. Even if the swords are neat at least. But anyway.

Here's what you get right out of the bag... a mess of parts to assemble. Oddly, this is my favorite part about blindpack LEGO figures. I will say right now, if you want one of the Rangers, feel for a belt, it's a small flat rectangle and only they have this part in this series.

Notable thing here is since the helmets are removable, the head underneath is simply a human face with a face mask. So you don't get a beautiful little Antonio face, no, just some dude with brown eyes and a dark skin tone. They operate on a peg-and-hole system that's opposite of standard LEGO, so unfortunately you can't do anything like put the helmet on a LEGO figure. You can however switch the head to make it work if you need to.

RIGHT, so this is what he looks like assembled. The brick they include is to help him stand, because I guess that would be important on a figure with only fair balance. Since it's a gold brick I don't mind.

So, apparently this is not just the Gold Ranger, but a metallic Gold Ranger... which puzzles me. Because gold is supposed to be metallic. Given that the Red Ranger in this series is specifically made of translucent red plastic, I assume that the metallic part is in reference to how the hands and torso are somewhat translucent. All I know is, it's Shinken Gold.

He comes armed with what I understand is called the Barracuda Blade. It's not as cool as the swords used by the other Rangers, but hey, it's something.

Not much to speak of in terms of articulation - it's about the same as a LEGO figure. Only thing is if you remove the belt piece, the torso can rotate left and right.

So what can I say? I think if you like Shinkenger, and for some reason would like to have LEGO style Power Rangers/Sentai stuff on your desk, these are neat. They're fairly inexpensive at $3 a bag and you might get something you like, like this guy. I might keep an eye on them to see if series 2 has anything up my ally. I hear Bulk might end up making a toy debut soon...
