Oh dear. Ahem. Well, I guess this is when you can say I've been bitten by the blindpack bug. I'd forgotten that these existed but when I was picking up a LEGO minifigure, I looked at the aisle of pink toys and saw this... and had to pick up two of these. At a time.
So, My Little Pony, we know the current show is kind of a big thing. This a way for me to really get into the toys; little, inexpensive PVC figures. They lack combable mane which is a gimmick I don't very much care for, so I'm already warmed up to them. But are they perfect? Survey says READ ON.
Of all characters, I never expected one of the main 6 to be my first; and here we are with Rainbow Dash! She is so much more accurate them her larger toy with the long mane. She's posed in a hind-legged stance with wings spread proudly. Overall not much to say other than, the paint work is really nice and everything is as it should be, the hair specially looks good.
Roseluck is where we get into my issue with this line, which is... Okay, there's 24 figures in this series. 6 of them are the main 6 ponies. The rest... are recolors of the main 6 ponies. Waaait a minute.
So yes, Roseluck is a recolor of Applejack, as noted by the knot her mane and tail have. She does however have a nicely done cutie mark, with detail to it. I was informed after mentioning this gal that she has appeared in the show quite a number of times, though I'm not quite sure which came first, the show or the toy? A mystery I don't care enough about to find an answer to. I'm just gonna throw out the possibility that the show came first and the toy tried to mimic the manestyle in the show as best it could. Her mane is more like Rainbow Dash's but she isn't a pegasus, so that might be why Applejack was used. Close enough! The colors are all spot-on with what you see in the show, which, considering it's a background character, is a nice thing to see.
Overall, hm... Well, these are essentially 2 dollars a figure, with a decent number of possible ponies you could get, just keep in mind that while the cheap price may be tempting... there's a lot of recolors of the main characters. I don't know where this line is going, but I hope they expand upon the molds in future releases, maybe even making some male ones too. I mean who WOULDN'T try to find a Doctor Whooves?
I'm thinking that I'll try to pick up two of these at a time whenever I buy them, just so it isn't quite such a short review for each individual figure. I did the LEGO ones separately because there's just a little more to talk about there and, besides, I don't see myself buying too many of those after I get the ones I really want from the current series. Let's see if I can get a Fluttershy from this one, though...
I just got two myself. And I also love the LEGO minifigs. LOL. But my son is a fan of My Little Ponies (he's 4) and I figured these little ponies were small and action figure like.
ReplyDeleteAt the store he wanted Rainbow Dash. And I wanted him to have two main ponies to play with. We ended up with Rainbow Dash and Twilight Sparkles. Score.
Happy Buzzing and Collecting!
